Williamsburg Centerpiece Workshop
In 18th century Williamsburg, a beautifully decorated table was the focal point for the holiday feast. Rigid rules required balance and symmetry. A good hostess concentrated on creating an eye-catching, usually edible, centerpiece. The Grafton Garden Club is presenting a workshop to create a Williamsburg Centerpiece for the Holidays. Join Janice Smith as she leads the workshop on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Municipal Center (Room E; upstairs) starting at 7pm. Space is limited. Contact Deb to verify there is still space available and then reserve your place with a $30 check (members are $25) for materials sent to Grafton Garden Club, PO Box 453, Grafton, MA 01519-0453. For the workshop, you will need to provide a basket or a porcelain or wooden container that is large enough to hold 2 apples, 2 pears, 2 pomegranates, 1 bunch of grapes, 7 magnolia leaves, and a few sprigs of red berries direct from Williamsburg. Also, you should bring filler: either shredded brown paper bags or shredded white paper, pinecones (four or five of different sizes), a box to carry the centerpiece home, and clippers to snip the greens to size. The centerpiece you make is yours to take, or you can lend it to the Club and enter it into the display on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the Community Barn during Grafton Celebrates the Holidays (drop it off at 11:30am, before the festivities get underway, pick up by 4pm on the same day). The Grafton Garden Club is a non-profit organization that has members from many area towns. The Club provides scholarships and grants to area schools for the educational pursuit of horticulture. |
